Which sounds like the life you want to live? Go to work every day, 5, sometimes 6 days a week for 50 weeks out of the year for 50 years and spend all that time checking your bank account several times a week to see what checks have cleared and which haven’t, watching the contents in the grocery cart to make sure you don’t go over your allotted grocery budget for the week, and trying to determine how many more trips to and from work you can make on what’s currently in your gas tank before your next pay day? OR, would you rather take your real passion in life and put IT to work making money for you?
Do you know what one of the main differences is between the rich and the poor? The poor spend their time working to make money while the rich spend their time making their money work for them.
Case in point. I’ve got this friend who is a filmmaker. He’s also a musician. When he’s making a film and needs music for it, he writes and performs it. Simple.
But where he lives there is a pretty big film scene and not all of those filmmakers are also accomplished musicians and they sometimes need music for their movies. My friend loves to score movies, it’s a big passion for him.
So he got an idea: instead of tracking down filmmakers and offering his services, why not do what he WANTS to do, and let them come to him.
He is building a website where he can write and post film score music to his heart’s content, put it on his website, and let the filmmakers come to him when they need a piece of music. Not only does this simplify matters for all involved, but it saves the filmmakers money.
They no longer have to find and hire a musician, then give them direction and hope the musician is inspired and/or talented enough to handle the project, spending way more than they can afford. Musicians are not cheap. Instead, the filmmakers can come to the website, browse the selections, and when one catches their ear and fits the mood and the scene, they pay a one-time fee to my friend, and they’ve got a piece of music for their movie.
The next time I have one in the works, I’m going to be using his service for my audio books.
Now my question is how do I steal this idea and adapt it to selling books? Because I really can’t think of anything.
But this is the perfect example of making your money work FOR you instead of working to make money. How can you turn your passion into a money making business and stop working to MAKE money and make the money work for you?
